Description

Lake Västra Sol (Västra Solsjön) is situated in the Göta River catchment. It is a nutrient poor forest lake. The lake has many small islands and bays and the shores are steep and stony. The ecological status of the lake is assessed to be good, which is also true for the chemical status. pH in the lake varies between 6.5 and 7.5. The total P concentration in the lake have not exceeded 6 µg/l since 2005.

The lake contains European crayfish and the fish fauna is very species rich with 11 species being caught including Vendace (Coregonus albula) and European Smelt (Osmerus eperlanus). The lake is included in the national trend lake monitoring program and was sampled for physico-chemical variables, phytonplankton, chlorophyll, macrophytes, benthic macroinvertebrates, and fish in 2009.
