Description

Roofensee (Germany, Brandenburg) is located within the nature reserve area “Stechlin-Ruppiner-Land”. This oligo-mesotrophic lake is entirely surrounded by woodland. It is connected to other waters via the Polzowkanal, i.e. to the East with the small and big Wentowsee and subsequently with the river Havel and to the West with the Nehmitzsee and Lake Stechlin.

Former investigations of fish, macrophytes and phytoplankton in 2003 - 2008 confirmed the very good trophic status of this lake. But methane production of sediments is unusually high (Gonsiorczyk et al. 1996, IGB), which is accompained by accumulations of hydrosulfate in the hypolimnion. Within WISER all four Biological Quality Elements will be sampled.
